Lucy Barnes is a Northumberland based artist whose work explores colour, texture, and the beauty found in overlooked details. Trained in Book Arts and Design at the London College of Communication, she brings a finely tuned eye to disciplines spanning painting, textiles, and jewellery. Drawing inspiration from the natural world and urban surfaces, her pieces invite a quiet attentiveness, transforming the everyday into something gently extraordinary.
Colour, Harmony & Chaos

Colour, Harmony and Chaos is an exploration of contradiction—how energy and stillness, control and spontaneity, can co-exist within a single frame. In this series of fifteen acrylic works on paper, Lucy Barnes leans into colour as both subject and language, letting it guide her hand in compositions that feel both deliberate and instinctive.
This body of work emerged from a process of permission—letting the brush go first, the logic following. Barnes is interested in the space between aesthetic instinct and emotional response, where colours clash, collide, or slip unexpectedly into quiet cohesion.
Each piece is its own moment of negotiation—a balancing act between harmony and disruption. Together, they form a visual diary of embracing the unpredictable with curiosity, generosity, and a sense of play.
